Forget-Me-Not

Irish Name: Lus Míonla

Botanical Name: Myosotis

My Story

"I am the forget-me-not, and I have one job, one gentle plea: remember me."

I grow low to the ground, easy to overlook — but once you see me, you won't forget. My petals are the blue of Irish skies between rain showers, with a tiny yellow heart at my center. I'm small, yes, but I carry big meaning.

You'll find me in damp places: along stream banks, in woodland clearings where the light filters through, in meadows that stay moist even in summer. I love the company of ferns and mosses, and I bloom from spring through early autumn.

Legend & Folklore

Medieval legend tells of a knight and his lady walking along a riverbank. He bent to pick these delicate blue flowers for her, but the weight of his armor pulled him into the rushing water. As the current swept him away, he threw the flowers to shore and cried out: "Forget me not!"

Since then, I've been a symbol of remembrance, loyalty, and true love. People wear me to remember loved ones, to mark important promises, to say "you are always in my thoughts."

My Role in Nature

Though I'm tiny, I'm important! My nectar feeds early pollinators — bees, hoverflies, and butterflies who need energy in spring. I grow in colonies, creating carpets of blue that signal healthy, biodiverse habitats.

I'm also an indicator species: where I thrive, the soil is good, the water is clean, and the ecosystem is balanced. When you see me, you know nature is doing well.

From Meadow to Jewellery

I collect forget-me-nots during their peak bloom, carefully drying them to preserve their delicate structure and sky-blue color. Each flower is unique — some are deeper blue, some more pale, some have perfectly symmetrical petals while others are charmingly imperfect.

When preserved in crystal-clear resin, forget-me-nots become tiny blue whispers you can wear close to your heart. They're perfect for remembering someone special, marking a meaningful moment, or simply carrying a piece of Irish nature with you.

Ethical Foraging Note

I only collect forget-me-nots from abundant populations, taking just a few flowers and leaving plenty for pollinators and seed production. Never harvest from rare or protected areas, and always leave more than you take.
